Associate Dean for Undergraduate Program

The College of Nursing at East Carolina University is seeking an Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program. The Associate Dean of the UG Program provides administrative leadership, oversight, and coordination of the Undergraduate Program. The primary functions in this position concern management of planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the BSN program in the College of Nursing. ECU College of Nursing is a NLN Center of Excellence and a NLNAC accredited college offering programs at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. The College is housed within a Division of Health Sciences that also includes College of Allied Health Sciences, the Brody School of Medicine, the Laupus Library and the Dental School. East Carolina University is a Doctoral Research Intensive University located close to the beaches and Outer Banks of North Carolina. We are a large, public University with a small college atmosphere. The undergraduate nursing program accepts approximately 130 pre-licensure students each semester, and has over 100 RN/BSN students enrolled in an on-line option, as well as an RN/MSN option. The major clinical affiliation is Pitt County Memorial Hospital, a tertiary care center. This position reports to the Dean.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Provides oversight of the BSN program planning, development and implementation both on and off-campus.
b) Schedules academic offerings to ensure quality and consistency across programs and departments, compliance with university policies, and requirements of external agencies.
c) Collaborates with school and university administrators and faculty curriculum committee in reviewing, modifying, enhancing, and marketing the BSN program. Performs significant role in curriculum development.
d) Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, Associate Dean for Research, Director of Undergraduate Student Services, and ITS staff in the collection, management and distribution of student, clinical, and academic data for planning and coordinating program evaluation.
e) Assists the Dean with accreditation and other reports. Generates data for program approval, evaluation and accreditation.
f) Provides a liaison function in the management of resources related to the BSN program.
g) Collaborates with Associate Dean for the Graduate Programs, the faculty assigned to student services, the clinical coordinator, program evaluation coordinator and ITS staff. Supervises program evaluation.
h) Administers university/program policies and procedures.
i) Collaborates with directors in the maintenance and management of record systems and computerized tracking of all BSN students.
j) Participates in student and faculty recruitment, faculty appointment, and serves as a promotion advocate.
k) Participates in faculty workload assignments in collaboration with department chairs and Associate Dean for Graduate Programs.
l) Promotes and maintains effective working relationships with College of Nursing standing committees.
m) Serves as a resource to standing and ad hoc committees of the College of Nursing faculty.
n) Teaches selected courses in area of expertise.
o) Provides academic counseling and conflict resolution for nursing majors as appropriate.
p) Actively participates in scholarly activities and professional services, as required of members of University faculty community.
q) Serves as liaison with the community through participation in community groups and responds to community needs relevant to nursing education.
r) Serves as designee representing the Dean as requested.
s) Completes other assignments at the request of the Dean.
Minimum Qualifications Earned doctorate in nursing or doctorate in related field plus a master's degree in nursing; prior teaching and administrative experience in a baccalaureate or higher degree program; credentials for approval as full graduate faculty appointment and appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor; expertise in writing grant proposals and conducting research; and excellent skills in leadership, supervision, written and oral communication skills. Nurse faculty members shall hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina and if employed after July 1, 1992 shall have had a minimum of 2 calendar years prior, full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.

Nursing Education Faculty - OPEN RANK

East Carolina University College of Nursing is currently seeking applications for a faculty position with interest and expertise in Nursing Education. This position is advertised as open rank. Candidates may be considered for 9 or 12 month tenured, tenure-track or fixed term appointments commensurate with education and experience. Faculty responsibilities include planning, teaching and evaluating theory and clinical practicum courses that may include classroom/didactic instruction via distance education using a Blackboard format. Content may include teaching strategies/ methodologies, curriculum design, evaluation and practicum and synthesis courses. This position may also involve the supervision of students in teaching practicum settings requiring assisting students in identifying appropriate practicum sites and preceptors, as well as negotiating contracts for the practicum experience.

Minimum Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who hold a doctoral degree in nursing or related field with a MSN or doctoral focus in nursing education, are a certified nurse educator, have a minimum of two years full time experience in nursing education and who meet the North Carolina Board of Nursing requirements for faculty (21 NCAC 36.0318(e). Experience in teaching distance education classes is also recommended.

Academic Advisor

The advisor is responsible for the academic advising of enrolled intended and declared nursing majors.

Responsibilities will include:

1.Assist students in analyzing and evaluating academic needs/choices to increase retention and timely graduation.

a. Provide readily available academic advisement to meet student needs to increase retention.

b. Enhance student awareness of educational resources, such as the Honors Program, scholarship programs, externships, and study abroad.

c. Prepare senior summaries for undergraduate declared majors prior to early registration for the first senior semester.

d. Make referrals to CON counselor, Director of Student Services, Associate Dean and other campus resources as needed.

2. Provide a centralized source of accurate and up-to-date information for academic and career planning.

a. Provide clarification of University and College of Nursing policies and procedures.

b. Advise students as to appropriate courses to meet degree/graduation requirements.

c. Implement the advising/registration process for students.

d. Publish an email newsletter prior to each registration period describing the activities of the Advising Center.

Minimum Qualifications: Hold a minimum of a Master's degree from an appropriately accredited institution. Advising and/or academic counseling experience is preferred. Knowledge of the degree requirements for the degree programs in the College of Nursing is preferred. Knowledge of degree requirements for related programs in other areas is an asset.

Executive Drector of Student Services

The College of Nursing is seeking an Executive Director of Student Services. This individual directs and oversees student recruitment, retention, and enrollment activities, which includes registration, academic advising, academic support and counseling, scholarships, financial aid, student records, and data collection for undergraduate and graduate students. The person will provide oversight for the operational management of the Office of Student Services for the College of Nursing. The Executive Director of the Office of Student Services is a line position accountable to the Dean.

Minimum Qualifications: A minimum of a master's degree in a student services related area or in educational administration from an appropriately accredited institution and have a minimum of five years of experience with student services related work. Should have excellent management skills, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work with a variety of publics, superior organizational and problem resolution skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines, and computer and analytical skills. Understanding of the integrated functions of the registrar, admissions, and financial aid and student affairs is needed. Familiarity with University and College of Nursing policies and procedures are a plus, but not a requirement. However, experience in admission procedures, enrollment planning, retention programs, and data management are essential. If the individual is a nurse, he/she shall hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina and if employed after July 1, 1992 shall have had a minimum of two calendar years prior, full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.
