Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

The BSN to DNP curriculum in the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) Concentration is a 60 semester-hour curriculum that prepares nurses for entry into advanced practice. The curriculum is designed for students who have earned a baccalaureate (or higher) degree in nursing and who wish to pursue an advanced nursing practice role in the acute care setting. The AGACNP program of study requires 540 clinical practice hours and includes completion of a three-semester DNP project. We seek students who have critical thinking skills and the ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats.

The patient population for the AGACNP includes adolescents, young to middle-aged adults, the older adult, and advanced elderly. Our AGACNP graduates practice within healthcare institutions as part of an interprofessional health care team in acute care settings such as emergency departments, hospitalist services, inpatient consultation services (cardiology, neurology, etc.), and intensive care units. Our program is offered in a hybrid format with the majority of classroom content being completed online.

Students are required to hold an active registered nurse licensure in North Carolina (or a compact state.) Priority will be given to students who have a least 2 years of experience in an emergency department or intensive care unit. We assist with clinical placements, offer academic advising, and provide valuable student support services. Graduates are eligible to complete certification examinations through the American Nurses’ Association (ANCC) or American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
