Dear College of Nursing Alumni and Friends,

As you know, few undergraduate degrees launch a career like nursing and even fewer have almost endless options. I found unanimous agreement over quality of training as well as high regard for those providing that training in my 138 meetings with you last year.

No Pirate Nurse is surprised by the Nursing Schools Almanac ranking of 6th best public nursing school in the country!

Despite our excellent national ranking and increases in enrollment (9.4% undergrad; 3% grad), the College of Nursing itself faces very significant state budgetary cutbacks, like the rest of ECU. If everyone gave something, perhaps we could meet the budget shortfall? The College of Nursing can no longer succeed as it has without much greater private support from alumni and friends than it has historically received.

Clearly you are on a winning team, but you need that team to inform you when there is a problem and why. I believe a lack of that knowledge results in less than 3% of nursing’s alumni giving annually. Did you know it is historically this low or that this year’s budget cuts are so significant? Dean Brown, the College of Nursing, and I are working to increase that awareness. Your gift increases our alumni percentage of giving, but most importantly it helps us meet our mission to serve as a national model for transforming the health of rural underserved regions.

• Endowment Donors interest from named gift provides perpetual annual awards per donor’s gift agreement directive
