Dr. Tomika Williams, PhD, AGPCNP-C, RN: DNP Spotlight

Dr. Tomika Williams, PhD, AGPCNP-C, RN, clinical assistant professor, is an engaged clinician with a love for caring for the older adult population. She has varied clinical practice experience including over 10 years of experience in long-term care.

Dr. Williams started her advanced practice nursing career treating inpatient rehab patients during their acute hospital stay. There she was introduced to the concept of interdisciplinary work that included a team approach to successful rehabilitation of a client. After approximately two years, she transitioned her clinical practice to the long-term care setting. In this environment, Dr. Williams flourished as a provider for the institutionalized older adult. Her expertise matured in caring for medically complex older adults and managing the nuances of long-term care. Dr. Williams was awarded the “Practice Nurse of the Year” award by the North Carolina Nurses Association in 2009, highlighting her clinical expertise. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Williams was recognized again by the North Carolina Nurses Association, receiving the “Mentorship in Nursing” award in 2015 for all of the mentorship she provides to other nurses and advanced practice providers.

In 2014, Dr. Williams transitioned to become a full time faculty member here at the ECU College of Nursing. She currently teaches in the DNP concentration. Dr. Williams continues to maintain her clinical practice one day per week at the Yadkin County Wellness Clinic in Yadkinville, NC.

Dr. Williams lives in Greensboro, NC. She graduated from NC A&T State University in 1998 (BSN) and the University of North Carolina in 2003 (MSN-Nurse Practitioner) and 2016 (PhD in Nursing).
