Dr. Melinda Workman Matthews, DNP, MSN, RN, ANP-BC, CDP
Dr. Melinda Workman Matthews, DNP, MSN, RN, ANP-BC, CDP joined East Carolina University College of Nursing in 2018 as a clinical assistant professor in the DNP concentration working to prepare future nurse practitioners (NP) – both family and adult-gero primary care NPs. She received her BSN from ECU (1987) and graduated from Duke University with her MSN-ANP (1999). She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2015 from ECU.
Dr. Matthews’ nursing and advanced practice career as an ANP has been primarily in cardiac medicine. She has worked in eastern NC for the past 32 years – first as a RN at (then) Pitt County Memorial Hospital, then transitioning to private practice as an ANP in Cardiology and she joined ECU Brody School of Medicine, Department of Cardiology in 2008 before transitioning to academia at ECU College of Nursing in 2018. Her most recent faculty practice is at the Pitt County Health Department in Greenville, NC – demonstrating the need to be a lifelong learner! Her clinical interests remain cardiovascular focused, but she is developing an interest in women’s health and wellness.
Dr. Matthews currently lives in Rocky Mount, NC with her husband, Bill. They enjoy traveling (when there is not a pandemic) and spending time w/ church friends and family.
