Dear Pirate Nurses and Pirate Nurse Friends,
The devotion of College of Nursing (CON) faculty is only one of many hallmarks of distinction. The college prepares more new nurses than any other four-year program in NC and has a 97 percent 3-year pass rate on the NCLEX-RN which demonstrates the high-quality preparation of our graduates.
As the liaison between alumni and CON, I am the one to connect you with the appropriate person on campus. We need your ongoing involvement with CON and want to make that as easy as possible.
- IF you can share (in person or by teleconference) your experiences with CON's new students, tell me!
- IF you can help precept, tell me!
- IF you are ready to take your career to the next level, tell me! I can put you in touch with the appropriate faculty contact! While you know what a great career nursing is, many only know the bedside care portrayed in the media. While that noble aspect of nursing is the reason nursing is voted as the most trusted profession year after year (Gallup Poll), it is far from the only way to practice nursing. Check out all the fabulous online CON programs for MSN, DNP and PhD!
- IF you can speak to a local high school class about the gateway of opportunity a nursing background provides, tell me!
- IF you can help expand the Pirate Nurse Network in your hospital or region, tell me!
Next time you receive a patient's (or physician's) praise, please tell them yours is an ECU nursing degree and that Grateful Patient donations help educate future nurses like you (or refer them to me). That simple sharing helps more than you can imagine!
Likewise, to honor or memorialize someone, choose your gift from a CON Annual Fund. From the new, easy online platform you decide to make a one-time gift or set up re-occurring payments. At the bottom of the page under Additional Options, specify recipient's name, address, etc., so notification of your gift (not its amount) can be made on your behalf.
Every gift moves us that much closer to helping a future nurse succeed, educating tomorrow's nurse leaders, providing research that improves patient health, or even funding travel to share that research at a conference.
Special Gift to the RIBN Program: In January, the College of Nursing received a check from UnitedHealthcare for $25,000. That gift will be totally expended during fall 2018 and spring 2019 for student scholarships in the Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses Program. The scholarships will go to RIBN students in their final year. UnitedHealthcare is excited to help ensure more baccalaureate nurses in rural areas sooner.
If you have an interest in learning about Endowed Gifts, please contact me. They can be made now with cash, life insurance policy, appreciated stock, IRA Rollovers, etc. or later through your will or other planned gift vehicles.
New Endowments:
- Carol Fleming Irons Nursing Honors Program Endowment
- Nicole and “Izzy” King Nurse Practitioner Scholarship
- Pansy L. and Vernon L. Vinyard Faculty Support Travel Endowment
- Linda Winton Pynn Nurse Practitioner Scholarship
- Mary Lou S. Fisher Scholarship
- Oscar and Jessie Webb Endowment
- Deitra and Edward Lowdermilk Endowment
Whether you are a CON Alumna/Alumnus or a CON Friend, appreciative of the skilled care you received from a Pirate Nurse, thank you for caring! I look forward to meeting you on campus, in your home, or at your place of work. In the meantime, contact me with any questions or suggestions you may have.
Thank you for giving of your time, talent, and treasure to ECU's College of Nursing to ensure we continue to produce the most prepared nurses.
With appreciation,
G. Elizabeth Maxwell, Director of Development
