DNP Leadership Program

Bradley Sherrod - Post-Master's Leadership Concentration

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree is a practice-focused terminal degree earned by specialists in advanced nursing practice. The DNP focuses on developing nursing experts in translating and applying research findings in clinical practice. The post-master’s DNP Leadership curriculum is a 36 semester-hour program that expands the competencies of leadership principles from the master’s level to encompass knowledge required as nurse leaders in increasingly complex healthcare systems to assess published evidence transforming practice, improving systems of care to positively affect healthcare outcomes, to make evidence-based changes to enhance the quality of care, and to heighten the health care consumer driven experience.

Students in the DNP Leadership program work collaboratively with healthcare executives and inter-professional teams within a variety of settings, such as health departments, clinic practices, schools, professional organizations, acute-care facilities, and long-term care organizations. In order to achieve the DNP competencies, programs must provide a minimum of 1,000 hours of practice post-baccalaureate as part of a supervised academic program. The required practice hours for the DNP Project courses will vary and will be calculated based upon the number of clinical hours completed in the student’s MSN program.

Students are required to hold an active registered nurse licensure in North Carolina (or a compact state). Practice hours related to the 4 Project courses are typically completed at the student’s place of employment.
