Development and Counseling Services

The Student Development and Counseling Center (SDCC) helps students successfully navigate nursing school while balancing the personal, familial and many other demands of life. We invite you to review these options and let us know how we can help.

Academic and Personal Counseling

The Student Development and Counseling Center’s mission is to promote student success and general well-being. One way we aim to meet this goal is by providing brief academic and personal counseling to College of Nursing students. Our professional counselors work exclusively with nursing students, faculty, and staff, and therefore understand the unique needs of this population.

Through the counseling process, students can receive support, guidance, encouragement and assistance in connecting to other beneficial campus resources. Occasionally, we refer students to supportive services in the community for long-term counseling or pharmacological intervention.

Email us to schedule or cancel an in-person appointment.

Distance Counseling

To increase the accessibility of services to nursing students enrolled in distance education programs, the SDCC offers a variety of services via video conferencing. Distance counseling is primarily available for nursing students currently enrolled in the RN to BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD programs.

Crisis Intervention

Life doesn’t stop when you’re in nursing school, and sometimes that means the death of a loved one, an accident in the family or other personal crisis. The center often helps students maneuver through personal tragedies no matter how big or small – by providing counseling and pointing them to resources that can help them cope.

However, our office is not available 24/7 and our emails are not monitored on weekends or in the evenings. If you are in crisis and cannot wait for an email response or call back please contact the National Suicide HotlineĀ  at 1-800-273-8255, Mobile Crisis at 1-866-437-1821 OR use their chat feature at the top of their webpage, or call the Main Campus Counseling Center (CCSD) at 252-328-6661.
