The BSN to DNP curriculum in the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) Specialty is a 61 semester-hour curriculum that prepares nurses for entry into advanced practice. The curriculum is designed for students who have earned a bachelor’s (or higher) degree in nursing, and who now wish to pursue an advanced nursing practice role. The AGPCNP program of study requires 720 clinical practice hours, and also includes completion of a three-semester DNP project.

The patient population of focus for the AGPCNP includes adolescents, young to middle-aged adults, the elderly and advanced elderly. Our AGPCNP graduates practice in community settings, in sub-acute/skilled nursing facilities, and in long-term care settings. The AGPCNP works as part of an interprofessional health care team. We seek students who have a commitment to rural and underserved populations in Eastern North Carolina and beyond.

Our students work collaboratively with interprofessional teams in a variety of settings, such as clinics, schools, health departments, and long-term care organizations. Our program is offered in a hybrid format with the majority of classroom work being completed online.

Students are required to hold an active registered nurse licensure in North Carolina (or a compact state.) Clinical rotations are also completed solely in North Carolina. We offer assistance with clinical placements, academic advising, and student-support services. Graduates are eligible to sit for the American Nurses’ Association (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) certification examination for Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners.
