Informational Sessions: The nurse-midwifery program is having virtual informational sessions from 1:00 to 2:30 pm on Monday, August 11th, 2025, Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, and Monday May 4th, 2026. The purpose of the Nurse-Midwifery concentration at East Carolina University College of Nursing is to prepare professional nurses as safe and competent practitioners of nurse-midwifery who are eligible for certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
Graduates from this program will earn a Masters in Nursing Science (MSN) degree or a Post Masters Certificate in nurse-midwifery. Upon completion of this program the graduate will be eligible to sit for the American Midwifery Certification Board exam. Upon successful completion of this exam the graduate will be able to use the title “Certified Nurse-Midwife” (CNM). See how you can enroll in our program at East Carolina University.
Call for 3rd Party Comments
The nurse-midwifery program at East Carolina University will be undergoing review for reaccreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) in the Spring. Our ACME site visit is scheduled for February 23-25, 2026, and our program will be reviewed at the July 2026 ACME Board of Review meeting.
In accordance with ACME Policies and Procedures, ACME is seeking third-party comments concerning the qualifications for ongoing accreditation of the nurse-midwifery education program at East Carolina University. Any comments will be included with other program materials during the July review. In all instances, your comments must directly relate to the reaccreditation of the program and adhere to the ACME Criteria for Programmatic Accreditation (May 2019, updated April 2025) which includes citation of the criterion of concern in your comments.
All written comments can be submitted one of three ways: 1) emailed to support@theacme.org; 2) mailed to ACME at 2000 Duke Street, Suite 300, Alexandria, Virginia 22314; or 3) via the online submission form: ACME 3rd party comment form.
