Innovative Technology

Medatrax Software

In order to meet accreditation requirements nurse-midwifery students are required to provide information about their clinical experiences. The purpose of the Medatrax Software is to provide ECU midwifery students with the means to collect data about their clinical practice using up to date technology. This data is accessible to the faculty so they can check on the student’s progress in the clinical sites on a regular basis. The Medatrax Software provides extensive data about clinical experiences that is used in a personal portfolio upon graduation.

Virtual Practice

The purpose of the virtual practice exercise is to give students a safe environment to practice phone triaging and develop a management plan. Students are assigned as a group to a virtual nurse-midwifery practice during three clinical courses. Students name the practice, write a philosophy, and then develop a call schedule for a week. During their on-call day the student receives a call from a faculty member who simulates a patient scenario. The student then presents the encounter in a SOAP note format via the ECU learning platform medium where classmates provide feedback regarding the virtual encounter.
