Health Systems Leadership
The nursing health systems leadership concentration is designed to facilitate the graduate nurse in the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary for leadership positions within a variety of settings in the health-care delivery system. Students in the Health Systems Leadership concentration develop specialized knowledge in leadership including but not limited to theoretical and operational aspects of nursing leadership, human relations management, population health leadership, health policy, financial management or nursing informatics. Students take additional courses and participate in a 252-hour practicum experience in the focus area and role preference selected. Success in this 38-semester hour concentration requires computer proficiency since it is a 100% online offering.
“Admit by Exception” Provision for Nursing Leadership Concentration
No applicant who falls below the ECU College of Nursing Graduate Nursing Leadership concentration’s minimum admission requirements (GPA <2.7 on all baccalaureate coursework is guaranteed admission. However, per ECU Graduate School policy, the program director can request for students to be “admitted by exception” for exemplary students. The Dean of the ECU Graduate School makes the final decisions regarding these requests.
The following criteria are used to inform decisions at the concentration level regarding all requests for admission by exception: 1) demonstrated success and leadership in current professional role as a nurse in clinical, research or healthcare positions, and 2) strong recommendations from experienced healthcare leaders with first-hand knowledge of professional work. Additionally, an interview may be required for the program director to evaluate applicants.
Applicants admitted by exception will be required to earn a GPA of 3.0 on the first 9 semester hours attempted in ECU coursework. Students who fail to earn an overall GPA of 3.0 by the end of this period will not be permitted to continue in the program of study.

Curriculum
The Nursing Leadership concentration requires a minimum of 42 semester hours and is available through a 100% online option. You will find a full-time two-year curriculum plan and a part-time curriculum plan for each of the three foci below.
