Unofficial Transcript Review

It is important to understand that the ECU Registrar’s Office completes official transcript evaluations and awards transfer credit when students apply for admission to ECU. A minimum final grade of C- or higher is required by the university for courses completed at accredited institutions to officially transfer to ECU. The College of Nursing requires a higher minimum grade for some coursework which varies between BSN pathways.

All prospective students should carefully review information and admission requirements for both ECU Undergraduate Admissions and their respective College of Nursing program. Admission eligibility and course requirements are subject to change at any time.

Alternative Credit Earning

ECU does not guarantee transfer credit from any alternative credit earning institution or company that awards credit on an American Council on Education (ACE) transcript. Some courses may transfer to the university with the submission of an official transcript from the company plus an official ACE transcript. Please note that ECU will award pass/fail credit only for courses reflected on an ACE transcript. The College of Nursing requires a minimum grade for specific general education and prerequisite courses (this varies by BSN pathway). Pass/fail credits on an ACE transcript are not accepted by the College of Nursing for courses where a minimum letter grade is required for the program.

Traditional and Accelerated BSN Prospective Students:

Prospective students interested in the traditional BSN and accelerated BSN (ABSN) pathways at ECU should follow the steps below to unofficially determine potential credit equivalencies for course requirements within these two BSN pathways.

STEP 1: Download the Course Requirement Tracking Worksheet for your pathway(s) of interest.

STEP 2: Utilize the online resources to below to unofficially determine equivalent or potential equivalent courses for requirements outlined on the pathway worksheet.

  • ECU Course Equivalencies through TES
    • START HERE! This online tool lists established course equivalencies at ECU for institutions all over the country.
  • Transfer Course Evaluation Form
    • For any courses or institutions not found within the TES tool linked above, prospective students can reach out to the ECU Registrar for additional answers regarding course equivalencies.
    • Any correspondence received from the Registrar in response to using this form should be kept for future reference and enrollment at ECU.
  • ECU Credits Earned by Exam
    • These tables outline exam scores needed to earn credit at ECU for the following types of exams: CLEP, DANTES, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Cambridge International.
  • UNC Military Equivalency System
    • Explore credit and possible equivalencies for military training and occupations.
  • ECU Catalog
    • Choose “Courses” from the left side menu to review descriptions and credit hours for required courses to help identify possible transfer equivalencies at other institutions.

STEP 3 (OPTIONAL): Students with questions can request feedback on completed and/or planned coursework. Please follow these guidelines:

  • Email CONAdvising@ecu.edu
  • Subject Line: Course Requirement Worksheet Review
  • Include name, contact email, and contact phone number
  • Attach the following documents:
    • Copy of completed Course Requirement Tracking Worksheet
    • Copies of unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Please allow up to 4 weeks for a response. At particularly busy times (advising/registration and beginning/ending of a semester), this response time may be extended.

RN to BSN Prospective Students:

Prospective students who have earned an Associate Degree in Nursing or are enrolled in an Associate Degree in Nursing program and are interested in the RN to BSN pathway at ECU should follow the steps below to request an unofficial review of transcripts.

STEP 1: Download and complete the RNBSN Transcript Evaluation Request Form

STEP 2: Collect an unofficial transcript from each college or university that you have attended.

  • High school transcripts and transfer credit noted on a different institution’s transcript are not acceptable for transcript evaluation requests.
  • Copies should include institution name, terms attended, course numbers and titles, credit hours, and final grades for evaluation accuracy.
  • Students with an international transcript should have it evaluated first by an international education evaluation agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. The evaluation should reflect the U.S. equivalency for course titles, course grades, semester hours attempted and passed per course, date course taken, and degree earned. A copy of the report should be sent with the unofficial transcript evaluation request form.

STEP 3: Email all unofficial transcripts and completed request form to RNBSN@ecu.edu.

  • Please allow up to 4 weeks for processing. At particularly busy times (advising/registration and beginning/ending of a semester), this response time may be extended.
  • After reviews are completed, students will receive an email with the result of their evaluation. Students can use this unofficial evaluation as a tentative checklist for completing remaining prerequisite courses.
